Beech Class

Welcome to Beech Class!

In Beech Class, we pride ourselves on having a happy, learning community where everyone who learns and works here is made to feel welcomed and valued.

Therefore, we strive to ensure our youngest learners have a calm and settled start to begin their journey at St. Benet’s.

Phonics and Early Reading

At St Benet's Catholic Primary School we use Little Wandle Revised Letters and Sounds to teach phonics, reading and spelling. Each day, children have directed phonics and spelling sessions. They are taught in their year groups and all our staff are fully trained to run the programme.

Children are given books that are decodable and matched to their specific phonics knowledge, ensuring they can read the text independently and reinforce learnt phonics skills.

Once they have completed Phase 5 phonics, they move on to wonderful chapter books that continue to develop fluency and comprehension as well as foster a love of reading!
